On September 14, 1998, a Hollywood Squares revival debuted with Tom Bergeron as its host. In addition to her production duties, Whoopi Goldberg served as the permanent center square, with series head writer Bruce Vilanch, Gilbert Gottfried, Martin Mull, and Caroline Rhea as regular panelists and Brad Garrett, Bobcat Goldthwait, Jeffrey Tambor, George Wallace, Kathy Griffin and various others as semi-regular panelists. Shadoe Stevens returned to announce, although he was not given a square on the panel as he had been when John Davidson was host.

One of the more hard to believe stories, this episode focuses on Perry and his life. His mother was sent to prison for murdering her husband ten years previous with an axe. Perry lived through the torments at school but he had long since forgotten about his mother. But Aunt Thom plans to break his mother out of jail and he has to help.

After Frank stops by Ray and Debra's house to borrow some ointment for his thighs, he becomes unusually interested in spending time with Ray. Initially, Ray finds it weird and is concerned that his father has suffered a physical trauma to the head, but after two of Frank's friends from the lodge stop by, all becomes clear.

Lindsay decides to move in with Bobby, leaving her possessions...including her answering machine, at Helen's.

She agrees to be less intense, but suddenly breaks up with Ben because she feels that he expects her to be someone else. She deals with her pain by getting a very short hair cut. Julie throws a big party (with cover charge) at the loft. Elena tries to help Noel get a girl's phone number.

Daniel and Kim get back together and despite the lack of alcohol, the party quickly gets out of hand.

Burner returns to shore and Spoon, Ice and Kate exult in his return from near death, but Burner is joyless. Ice is injured by an explosion and is medically grounded by Lt. Lawrence Brandon, her doctor, until her arm is strong enough to work the ejector lever. Spoon is jealous of the doctor and is having trouble getting over his near romance with Ice. Kelly investigates to try and find where the unexploded ordinance came from.

They attack their own comrades and join the new gang so that they can find out who they are, and who they are working for. The new gang specialises in robbing other gangs of criminals which leaves Sammo and Tyrell in a dangerous situation. The MCU have no idea where their two fellow officers are or what they are up to.
